Euposia, the leading magazine about wine in Italy, founded the Bollicine del Mondo in 2007. It was the first international blind tasting challenge of traditional method sparkling wines. Now in its eighth year, the Competition attracted 240 wines from five continents in 2015 and was judged by 24 experts from the USA, Argentina, France, UK, Germany and Italy.
This international accolade for Hambledon comes hot on the heels of Hambledon Classic Cuvée beating other top Champagnes and English fizz to win Noble Rot magazine’s blind tasting of Champagne v English sparkling wines in November. Hambledon Classic Cuvée also won Best UK Sparkling Wine at the Bollicine del Mondo in 2014.
Ian Kellett, managing director of Hambledon Vineyard, says: “We’re simply overwhelmed to win yet another major award for our sparkling wines in less than two months. For Hambledon Première Cuvée to beat so many international sparkling wines and Champagnes to win this accolade, judged by a jury of international experts, is a remarkable credit to our vineyard and winery teams. Now the challenge is to keep improving what we do, since these two winning NV blends were the first wines we ever made, and so the scope for improvement should be good. What a great way to start off the Christmas festivities!”
Hambledon Première Cuvée is available from Berry Brothers & Rudd, other fine wine merchants and direct from the vineyard on www.hambledonvineyard.co.uk priced at £42.50.
